"Lethal People stands out as a brazenly smart thriller that's hip and quick. Locke's descriptions pop with a wit and flair that keep the pages turning. It's a fun read that knows when to take itself seriously." --BookReview.com
Lethal People, by John Locke, is a well written story about assassin extraordinaire, Donovan Creed.
Creed is a likable, believable, well developed character, which is really why I enjoyed the book so much. Although it is quite violent, Locke's main character struggles to come to terms with how he makes a living with a rather comical narration.
Locke also creates many scenes that are serious, violent and yet ludicrously funny all at the same time. I have to say again, I really enjoyed this book. A very good read. --Joanne Chase, Cut to the Chase Reviews

"Lethal People is a fast moving narrative based on a great character and supporting cast! The book really moves from the first page to the end and caused me to read it in one sitting. I laughed out loud at several of Locke's scenes and had to back up a bit just to make sure that he had really written the words I had just read." --Steven H. Jackson, author, Death of a Cure

"The plot moves forward with violent twists that will satisfy readers looking for fast action. Strategically placed clues predict future events without compromising the surprise factor. Well-defined characters embody the complex dynamics of good and evil. The book's black humor may seem harsh to some but will elicit laughs from readers who get it...This book will please those looking to escape into a story that keeps them guessing until the end. "Locke has certainly mastered the art of dialogue in this suspenseful tale...To say that this is not your typical mystery/crime series doesn't do the creative spirit of Locke justice. Readers will find that Lethal People is flooded with twists, unexpected characters and action...A page-turner." --Holly Christine - Pittsburgh Book Examiner (Complete Review Here: http://tinyurl.com/ylrsw3c)
"A relentlessly entertaining crime novel that's often LOL funny! The action is fast and furious, the dialogue smart, savvy and sexy, and the story is filled with quirky characters and clever surprises." --Gerald Gross, Freelance Editor
Lethal People is the first installment of the Donovan Creed crime series. Author John Locke has created a bold, intelligent, highly skilled, and humorous lead character. Creed takes the reader inside the criminal world where the unimaginable happens. This novel overflows with action while also setting a sturdy foundation for a series of novels that promise exciting and intense plots.
Creed's life is one outstanding adventure after another. There are bombings and crowd stopping weapons, socially conscious/psychotic midgets who want to conquer the world, and the discovery of the woman of Donovan's dreams. Through all of it, Donovan makes a point of looking out for his ex-wife and his daughter. Despite the anger his ex continues to harbor against him, Donovan still views her as his family.
Locke's imagination is awesome. The descriptions of Donovan's capabilities as an assassin and agent are vivid and realistic. The humor the author incorporates into the story takes the edge off of Donovan's often unethical and violent behavior. So, even though Donovan is way out there, you have to love this guy. The author also soars in terms of plot and storytelling. What the reader learns about Donovan and the other characters is revealed throughout the book smoothly and thoroughly.
Crime novel fans and readers who like to get attached to one intriguing character will love Lethal People and yearn for the next book in the series. I highly recommend it. --Melissa Levine, Independent Professional Book Reviewers

"Excellent use of dialogue!"
"The voice, tone, and language level all provide an excellent foundation for the characters and the story. The author has done excellent work."
"The midgets threw me for a brief second, but I quickly bought into them hook, line, and sinker."
"Amazingly, this writer creates a character—a very bad guy—assassin, hired killer, and mercenary—and compels the reader to like him. I fell in love with Creed. I don't condone what he does in all circumstances, but the author makes him just good enough to balance out the bad and create a mix of emotions in the reader that feels right. Kudos!"
"The author juggles multiple story lines excellently. The reader is left satisfied with the conclusion and wanting more. I'm happy to see the author is at work on a sequel."
"I didn't expect to like this story, but I ended up loving it. I fell in love with the main character (against my better judgment—I mean, he's a hired killer—a hit man!), and I would love to read more. The author should be congratulated for creating a fast-paced, interesting, adventure story with incredibly real and funny characters."
"The author is very adept. He's done an excellent job with his storytelling."

"I received it on Thursday and finished it Friday evening. I really like the book. A couple of my favorite authors are Harlan Coben and Dean Koontz. I would rank this book along with these two authors. In fact I liked it better than most as it didn't spend a lot of time with long, detailed descriptions. This story was to the point and moved quickly." --Linda Black, Shreveport, Louisiana

"John Locke is the master of dialogue and an exciting new author to crime fiction. He has demonstrated that in this novel about Donovan Creed, a CIA operative, who works as an assassin on the side. His side kicks, Augustus and Callie, are some of the many awesome characters in this adventure filled crime novel. John manages to create a caring, funny likeable character out of Creed even though he is an assasin for hire. This book kept me turning the pages late into the night. I cannot wait for the sequel." --Courtney Baxter, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney

"I am new to crime fiction-but this book was recommended by a friend that loves crime novels and I am so glad I opened my mind to this new adventure and that it was! I was totally involved with the characters-It was fast and full of action-and the diaglogue was easy and interesting-I stayed completely engrossed and found it hard to put down-and didn't! The chapters were short and complete and ended with cliff hangers causing you to beg for more-I almost felt guilty for enjoying reading about Mr Creed and his criminal activities because they were not all within the realm of the law-and that could be because it was very funny and even romantic-and sexy-When the book ended I was left wanting more-more about these people I had come to know and the challenge of trying to really figure them out-I have written Mr Locke (the author) and there are two books to follow-Lethal Experiment and Saving Rachel and I am looking forward to continuing the Donovan Creed adventure!" --L. Can't Put It Down, January 19, 2010
I must admit that when I started this book I was surprised by the main character's complete lack of respect for human life...yet somehow after the first few chapters I started pulling for the guy. This book is a fast read that is very well written. Now its on to Mr. Locke's next novel, "Saving Rachel"! |
John Locke's "Lethal People" provides thrills and chills in a roaring page-turner that you should only begin to read if you have time to finish in one sitting. Donovan Creed makes you want to hate him for his profession as a hired killer, but in the same moment you are pulling for him to succeed in his next "mission". I put John right at the top of my favorite story-tellers list with Stuart Woods, David Baldacci, and James Patterson. This is a "must-read" if you like high-octane thrillers! --Bobbie Leslie, Louisville, KY
"Action thriller from cover to cover. Donovan Creed wants answers and does what he needs to do to uncover a house fire that was set deliberately. Only one child survived with winnings from a lottery her parents won. But someone has other reasons to keep the winnings. A twisting display of characters that Creed in his own right can only work with to solve this mystery. Full of charm, sexy women and of course a relentless crime lord that stops at nothing. Highly recommended!" --Beau Scherer, Nashville, TN
"Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed "Lethal People!" I read it in one sitting -- couldn't give it up. I laughed out loud and had Claudia a little concerned! The book moves fast and is full of surprises. The humor is great -- keep it up!" --Steve Jackson, Sarasota, FL
